When did you start skateboarding?
I was just wondering is there an age bracket where it’s perfect to study skateboarding. My brother started early and my mother is always saying he is too young to learn it. Is she right? My brother is just 8 years old by the way.

Now this may seem funny but I actually started skateboarding when I was 8 years old too! Your brother is ready to skateboard already if he thinks he can do it then he should be given the chance to do so!

i started 5 years ago... so when i was 9.... yea 8's fine... as long as he has good balance and all, dont want him to really get hurt
Tony Hawks sons shred, and they started just a little while back, i think his latest son started when he was 4, my friend down the street, who inspired me to skate, started whe nhe was 4 too... but we dont do tricks just ride...

I got my first board when I was 9, but it was a little wal-mart board.
I went to skatecamp at Eisenbergs and actually started learning tricks and got way more interested and wanted to start improving so I'd say I seriously started skating when I was about 10 years old.

I wish I had started earlier too. I probably would have picked up the basic stuff a little better. I think that any age that a kid wants to start is a good age as long as the parent is involved in the activity and the kid doesn't try to advance past their abilities. If they stay with the basic stuff and only try and advance when they have become completely comfortable at their level they should be fine.

Nyjah Houston, he's like 11, and he's definately ben skating more than 3 years, I started at 13, but wish i would have sooner

well now i feel old partly because im 38 and I didnt start till I was like 16 then stopped somewhere around 20 or so Ive just recently started back since my kids got interested in it. Now if i could do even 1 or 2 little tricks id be happy as hell its a little depressing when my sons are showing me how high thier ollies are getting and mine look like retarded wheelies maybe ill just start telling them im trying to perfect my manuals first ha ha , like thats gonna work

I started in..uhhh around '87 or something. So long ago. Start young. You bounce. Start old...you'll break -- though the most important thing is...it's never too early or too late to start. That's why skating rules. You can just push/carve around Page Ranking pump tranny if you're feeling chill (or beginning) or you can step it up a notch a drop a huge set. In the end...it's all about loving skating.

I have a son who is turning 5 in a few weeks. He has a small skateboard that a friend gave to him back when he was around 2 or 3. So he been using it and learning about it and figuring it since then. Over the past year he started trying to do tricks like flipping the board or just making it move from side to side. (This is all done inside on the carpet - he was wasn't comfortable outside) He seems pretty good - considering that no one has formly taught him anything! He just recently started taking it outside - but he still seems a bit unsure about trying it on cement. He will for a bit - but I think he is still a little scared about how fast he goes.
Is he too young to be on a skateboard - I don't want to discourge him - he is really into skateboarding! I want to help him - but I have no idea what to do!! I would like to buy a skateboard - the one he has - is small and heavy - but I have no idea about skateboards! Anyone have any suggestions??
